Serve the sangat, support Gurdwara programs, and share in the Sikh tradition of selfless service.
What langar means
Langar is the free community kitchen established in the Sikh tradition to put equality, dignity, sharing, and seva into practice. Everyone is welcomed to sit together and receive the same vegetarian meal, without distinction of religion, caste, ethnicity, gender, wealth, or social position.
At Guru Nanak Sikh Heritage, langar is made possible by families and volunteers who contribute ingredients, funding, planning, preparation, serving, dishwashing, and cleanup. Every task matters. Seva is not measured by visibility or status; it is an opportunity to serve with humility and remembrance.
Ways to participate
Prepare
Help wash, chop, cook, organize supplies, prepare Karah Parshad, and keep work areas clean under the guidance of the Langar Committee.
Serve
Serve food and water attentively, welcome guests, assist families and elders, and help maintain a calm and respectful langar hall.
Support
Sponsor a langar, contribute toward groceries and utilities, donate supplies approved by the committee, or support other Gurdwara programs.
Requesting a Langar Seva date
Sangat members may request an available date to take Langar Seva. A submitted request is not a confirmed booking. A member of the Langar Seva Committee will contact the sewak family by telephone to discuss availability, the program, menu, preparation, supplies, responsibilities, and current seva amount.
- Choose an available date with the Langar Seva Committee.
- Provide complete and accurate contact information.
- Wait for telephone confirmation before purchasing supplies or inviting guests.
- Discuss the menu and quantities with the committee in-charge.
- Coordinate arrival times, food preparation, service, and cleanup.
- Encourage family members to participate personally in the seva.

- ਲੰਗਰ ਦੀ ਤਿਆਰੀ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਸੇਵਕ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

Kitchen and food guidelines
- Follow the direction of the Langar Committee and designated kitchen sevadars.
- Maintain cleanliness and wash hands before handling food or serving utensils.
- Use vegetarian ingredients appropriate for Guru ka Langar.
- Inform the committee of allergies, dietary concerns, or unfamiliar ingredients.
- Avoid waste by preparing appropriate quantities and taking only what can be eaten.
- Return equipment and work areas clean and ready for the next program.
Seva beyond the kitchen
Seva also includes greeting visitors, organizing shoes, maintaining head coverings, cleaning shared spaces, supporting audio and livestream needs, helping Khalsa School, setting up programs, transporting supplies, and offering professional or administrative skills. Contact the Gurdwara if you would like to volunteer regularly or offer a specific skill.
